May 19, 2016 - Lookout Has Been Accredited by COA
After more than a year and a half long intensive process and review, Lookout Society has been accredited by The Council on Accreditation (COA). Accreditation status means that the organization has passed a rigorous process of review to verify that the highest levels of best practices are in place at all levels of the organization.
Accreditation offered an opportunity for Lookout to complete an extensive consultation process whereby feedback was gathered from Lookout Society’s guests, residents, stakeholders, municipalities and funders. Lookout now offers Meet the Manager and Meet the Executive Director initiatives which allows guests and residents to provide direct feedback to senior members of the Lookout team.
Lookout reviewed everything from policies, to personnel files, to outcomes, to the intake process for both shelters and residential programs. Once the internal review was complete, a team of professional peer reviewers travelled to Canada to audit files and procedures. All levels of the organization were consulted, including staff and board members, with emphasis on engaging with guests and residences to better serve them.
Lookout created and implemented its first ever ongoing Risk Management, and Performance and Quality Improvement programs. These two programs serve to standardize new evaluation methods, and help the Society monitor, grow and analyse service delivery and organizational performance.
With the momentum of COA accreditation, Lookout also welcomes a new Deputy Executive Director, Keir MacDonald. Keir will provide leadership and provide continued support for best practices and ongoing commitment to stakeholders, guests and residents, across the Society. Keir brings to Lookout 8 years of experience in senior management in both legal and non-profit frameworks, including previous work at BC Housing.
