The CKNW Orphans’ Fund Counseling Program works with children K-12 in a variety of inner-city designated schools throughout Surrey-North. All of the children referred to our program possess extreme behavioural challenges that gravely impact classroom, family and peer interactions. Working collaboratively with educators, health care professionals and community support staff, our counselors develop an holistic care plan designed to treat and heal the socio-emotional challenges of each child referred.
This multi-faceted service includes weekly counselling support and service advocacy. We treat childhood depression, anxiety and trauma utilizing a variety of therapeutic techniques which include: art therapy, animal-assisted therapy, adventure-based therapy, mindfulness techniques to healing and traditional talk therapy. The healing process requires our counselors to regularly communicate with school, family and outside agencies to ensure the emotional needs of the children are addressed.
